What is Goose Island Beer?

It’s rare to find someone who doesn’t like a nice cold beer now and then. Whether a beer is your go-to drink or it’s only enjoyed on rare occasions, we all have our favorites. The U.S. has a lot of favorites, many of which you can find on our beer and wine menu. Included on this list is one draft beer that we think would be a fan favorite if more people gave it a try: Goose Island beer.

It’s no underdog, it’s a worldwide brand that millions of people enjoy. It’s considered a sweet and grainy malt that combines a mix of different fruity flavors. People like the taste of lychee, pineapple, orange, and lemon. It combines them all in a way that shouldn’t work but it does! It’s a bit bitter, but that bitterness dissipates at the right time. The body of the beer is light as well, which means it looks good in your beer mug.

In many ways, Goose Island beer is the perfect drink, and if you haven’t tried it yet, what are you doing? Make a reservation at Fire and Ice so you can try it for yourself.

History of Goose Island Beer

Goose Island beer has a rich history, dating back 34 years ago to its inception in 1988. The original brewery was founded by John Hall after he took a trip to Europe and found that there was better beer across the ocean than there was here in the States. Testing what Europe had to offer pint by pint, he declared, “America deserves some damn fine beer like this, too.”

Then he gave it to us. His first brewery remains in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, which was perfect because it had one of the largest systems of fresh water on the planet. Through hard work and expert brewing, Goose Island beer has been on shelves for years.

By 1995, Goose Island beer had several locations where they brewed beer, and that only expanded through the years. In 2011, Goose Island saw its biggest chance at growth when it “was acquired by Anheuser-Busch.” With the extra backing, nothing was stopping this brewery business.

The name comes from a local island with the name, “Goose Island.” This island is still a place you can visit.

What Food Should You Order With Your Draft Beer?

Beer is one of those drinks that can go with almost anything, whether it be chicken, seafood, or pasta. At Fire and Ice, we have various dishes that incorporate these meal staples. When you’re looking for something to eat alongside your drink, here are some options you can’t go wrong with.

Start your meal and your drinking time with some meat-filled appetizers like Broken Meatballs and Calamari Siciliano. There are many other choices, but these are the two that come to mind when you want something to bring out the taste of your beer.
